What is the biggest number?
May 18, 2008
Numbers can go on for infinity but around 1920, a nine-year-old boy named Milton Sirotta came up with the term Googol which is a 1 with 100 zeros after it. He then came up with another number he called a googolplex which would be a 1 followed by as many zeros as you could possibly write. Milton’s mathematician uncle, Edward Kasner, further defined a googolplex to be a 1 with a googol of zeros behind it.
Even a googol is of little use since there are not that many particles in the entire universe.
